Just Keep Swimming

Staying Motivated is Key - you just have to keep swimming

by Alex on May 13, 2010

Finding a Newly Evolved Modus Operandi (NEMO)

You know I could learn a lot from Dory. Her ignorance is a lesson in humility for some of us, and some of her points are as profound as they are ridiculous. I love it, And Ellen you’re a Classic! I chose to think of Dory because quite often when times are tough and we think our efforts are futile and we are slowly going nowhere it’s nice to remind ourselves that all we can do is ‘Just Keep Swimming’

This point has been reinforced by some great business minds in the past, but more prevalent to the situation I am currently in is watching it in action through a blogger I know called James Richmond. James is the Infopreneur and his persistence and business acumen are an inspiration not just for me, but for a whole community of bloggers and entrepreneurs. You should see the way he does it, in fact you can!  by checking out his methodology in his amazing eBook “This is How I do it (Motivated as Hell)” Alexa Rank on steroids – HELLO!

But for now this is a post about me (gratuitous self promotion sorry) and how I am really glad I ‘just kept swimming’ because if I hadn’t then THAT EMAIL wouldn’t have happened!!

I am fairly new to the online business and internet marketing world and as such, the period I am in now is one of mass information overload, a side of confusion and a sprinkling of self doubt. Can I just quickly point out that there is nothing wrong with doubt. Doubt is actually a good thing. It is how you react to doubt that defines you, not whether it exists or not.

Anyway, So I just keep swimming. The hardest thing for me starting out is the lack of confirmation that what I am doing is taking me in the right direction. Granted that’s what taking action is all about, “You Never Never Know if you Never Never Go”, but it’s still nice at the early stage of something new to get that feedback, that pat on the back to say ‘hey, you’re doing good-you’re on the right track’ I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that this is most prevalent in the online marketing world. I mean you are trying to make money online, surely its a scam – it will never work etc etc. Tirelessly they bring us down and tell us they will promise not to laugh too hard when we inevitably fall flat on our faces or ‘grow tired of the scam’, but in the words of the infamous Ned Kelly  “Such Is Life” and so we just Keep Swimming.

And then Success Swam into me.standing out from the crowd

THAT EMAIL that I refer to was a timely little ‘pat on the back’ and was one of the first WOW moments I have had since I started this online venture! What it was quite simply was an email from the Marketing Executive of an International Company that I was promoting on one of my sites. The email basically stated the following:

“ One of my marketing exec.’s saw your site. Your site is clean and easy to navigate. Who is your supplier? You are missing a few images of our product line up (I could not for the life of me find them anywhere as they are yet to be released) I can help you with that.  Let me know if you are interested in promoting us directly?”

Yours Truley – Mr X, Marketing Executive XXXXX International

Now I have kept the details of the company hidden since this is my first possible online business connection and so I don’t want to mar it in any way, but the point is not the content of the email, or who the company in question is. The point is that I just Kept Swimming and as a result – good things came my way. And Hey, it’s good to know that as far as my minisite business model goes, I am on the right track – legally AND ethically.

Oh, and in keeping with the tangible metaphor I started with, Being Motivated as Hell is important, but being Unique is KEY so make sure you are swimming against the stream. Only dead fish swim with it!

So How do you do it? Are you Motivated as Hell?

This is how I do it - Motivated as Hell

That exec was definitely right about your site. Very attractive design and appealing content. And I love your keep swimming mindset. There are times when things are tough, but we just need to stay in the water and keep moving in our own direction.

Thanks Jean! I am honoured that you could visit. YOU are the inspiration here and a great example of being consistent and genuine. I do just keep swimming, but you seem to have mastered being a fish yourself!

Thanks for the confirmation Mike, I think we are both doing well to have found such a close knit community that surrounds the infopreneur. You have obviously either read the book and/or have the right mindset to begin with, I like what you are doing at mikeroosa and Ill see you over there soon

Alex, far out!
Although I do not have the book in question and never heard of it, I can relate to the “keep on swimming” part of your post big time!
As of lately it seems harder and harder to make a buck online if you pardon my french. Everybody yells at you how you are about to miss the one and only solution for your problems if you don’t buy this course, and its not $999, no, not even $499…… you know the routine, don’t you.
Glad you got a little pat on yer back! You keep on swimming, dude. There’s only one direction, and that’s straight forward!
Cheering for you,
John D.

Hi Alex,

This post encourages me to watch Finding Nemo again. There are some good thoughts sparked by that movie & Ellen’s role was amazing. I remember Dory speaking whale and Marlin saying she couldn’t speak whale. Wasn’t the movie filmed near your home? (or cartooned)

I haven’t read Motivated as Hell, but I plan on winning that book in Mike’s raffle!!

Hahaha.. Sorry just thinking about the speaking whale scene again! Nice. I like your blog, you have some great stuff there, and with that attitude displayed here, you might just win that book too! Thanks for your comments Scott

Thanks Alex,

I added you to my blog roll tonight. I use it in order to save time. Everyday I just click down the list and see what everyones doing.

I don’t have a Wordpress site so I can’t use the same plugins. I don’t have access to Top Commentators so I use the blog roll. Also upsetting is Commentluv. Yah, no love for me since I’ve built my site with Joomla.

So for punishment, Commentluv will only update my site once a week, so the post it shows is old….

BUT, I’m going to keep swimming!! Splish Splash!

Hi Alex,
It’s really neat reading about the stuff you have post in Just keep swimming like Nemo. I like a tip “we react to doubt that will define us, success is persistence and lot of failure”.

Thanks Jennie.
I can definitely attest to that now too. My growing success took A LOT of failures – and they’re still going!
