Information overload is the number one killer for any new entrepreneur and the leading factor in the demise of the fledgling business venture.
As an excited new business owner and self starter – you greedily digest as much information as you can, only to find more ‘incredible’ information referenced within, and before you know it you are 8 web sites and 6 pdf documents removed from where you were originally!
The amount of information available on the web is phenomenal and trying to sift through what is relevant and pertains to your learning is nigh impossible, especially when you consider that at this early stage of learning – you don’t know what information is relevant– so you absorb it all! If this isn’t bad enough, you become accustomed to this nightly ritual, almost to the point where the ‘paralysis of analysis’ becomes your new safety blanket and instead of taking action in order to see results, you sift through reams of information because this will after all solve your problem and indirectly cause your business to thrive. This seems like an obviously ridiculous comment in that we all KNOW that simply studying will not make your venture grow, but we have all entertained this thought process all the same. This primarily stems from one prevalent human trait – Laziness! When you break it down to its core – people are too lazy to do the work and are just looking for the easy way out. It’s at about this point in the new business venture that the lazy marketer realises that this business in a box – turn key wealth creation system is actually going to require WORK and so they quit. This is good for us willing to do the work because it increases the chance that we will not be part of those 97% of failed marketers. (its a numbers game people)
So how do we beat the Paralysis of Analysis and overcome the feeling of information overload?
There is no specific process to beating information overload. You have to be honest with yourself for one thing, and for some this first step will be their undoing. It’s all about taking action. By taking action we are effectively not paralysed and therefore not allowing ourselves to be bombarded with more information. Taking action also results in your learning curve growing at an exponential rate! – See my post titled ‘Any Customer is a Good Customer – but at what cost?’ to understand this concept in more detail.
Tomorrow I will post part two of this article where I give you specific and measurable steps that you can take to beat the feeling of information overload and kick that dreaded ‘Paralysis of Analysis’ for good.

You’re right on the mark here, mate. Laziness and information overload are two main factors that contribute to the demise of any new business. Not using the information given freely and willing is another. I look forward to part two.
