UPDATE AUGUST 2011. If you are looking to automate the social bookmarking aspect of your blogging then you need to connect to Pixelpipe. Then you need to get the plugin that will automate the delivery of content from your wordpress blog to be syndicated and bookmarked on sites like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Flickr – and a whole host of high PR social bookmarking sites!
This new service/tool has completely revolutionised the way I use social media to build backlinks and promote my niche sites.
For more information – and the detailed post that shows you EXACTLY how to set all this up – simply follow this link:
Automate Social Bookmarking with WordPress and Pixelpipe
Now on with the original post which, although now over 6 months old is still as relevant as ever.
Last week during my Threadless Thursday rant I briefly mentioned the fact that my priorities were changing to focus primarily on my niche sites and building backlinks to them on a consistent basis and this focus had in fact already started changing earlier in the week when I posted my awesome article on Social Bookmarking over at TechnShare. Check it out here Backlinks and Backchat – The Bloggers Guide to Social Bookmarking if you want some clarification on wtf social bookmarking actually is. (yeah, I know. But if I don’t talk up the post, who will?)
In this post I listed the top 20 Social Bookmarking sites according to traffic numbers, and I mentioned that I would endeavour to provide a list of the top 10 – 20 Do Follow sites because obviously the no-follows are pointless, but then I found a free tool on the web that is so sweet I thought I would share it with you instead.
Yeah, I could list the top twenty do follow social bookmarking sites but realistically – what are you going to do with them, utilise each one, or even a few to bookmark all your pages, one. at. a. time. It really is a time consuming activity, and quite frankly – so is creating the list in the first place.
Introducing IMAutomator
IMAutomator is a BRAND NEW link building site that provides automatic social bookmarking services. Their system also offers a paid service but when they opened in June 2010 they limited membership to 100 and this has already filled. They are so new in fact that their affiliate program has not been setup so this is just a straight link to the IMAutomator site. An extract from their homepage:
IMAutomator puts your link building on auto-pilot! The free social bookmarking tool couldn’t be easier to use – just enter the URL you’d like the bookmark, IMAutomator extracts the title, description & tags (or you can enter your own), and then you submit and forget!
The free service allows you to bookmark 10 URLs every 24 hours. That’s 10 pages, submitted to 15 do-follow social bookmarking sites = 150 links to your blog and/or niche sites every day!
What I like about IMAutomator social bookmark submitter
Without doubt, it is the user interface. At the click of a button I can have all of the required fields populated and then choose the frequency with which my site is submitted to the social bookmarking sites. Then (and this is the best bit) it keeps a record of all the pages you have bookmarked inthe past, so you can keep track of what, where, and when. I will discuss the rate at which you build backlinks further in an upcoming posts, but basically know that it is not a good thing to build backlinks too quickly. If you are using this tool on your blog then I would say go ahead and let it bookmark all in one day, but if you are actively building backlinks in other places, then you really need to drop feed these links out. Check out the screen shot below.
What if I don’t like this particular social bookmark submitter?
If Vivien Tan had not come to the comment party over at TechnShare then my answer here would be ‘tough titties’ but since she did I can happily add another to the list. This is a direct copy and paste from the comment Vivien left, thanks so much for sharing this so that I pass it onto my readers Vivien!
This is where I go for social bookmarking, as it contains all the best sites on the Internet and allows us to bookmark to up to 50 sites within 15 minutes http://www.socialmarker.com/
I have checked it out and it does indeed seem like a fantastic free social bookmarking service. What I like about this tool is that all you need to do is go to their site, drag a little widget button they supply to your Firefox bookmarks toolbar, in order to create a submission bookmarklet. When you are on a website that you want to socially mark, simply click the SocialMarker button and social marker launches in a new window with all the URL details of the page you were just on. Then you fill in all the fields and submit it. Just like Digging something except you are bookmarking A LOT more sites. What I don’t like about this tool is the fact that it submits so many all at once, good for blog, not good for niche site. I also don’t like that I have to keep track of what I have and have not bookmarked myself.
Both tools have their merits, and in a nutshell I would say this:
- Use Socialmarker as your tool of choice to bookmark your own blog posts AND others that find around the blogosphere (seriously, how awesome a blogger would you be if you bookmarked someone’s post to 50 sites! Holy crap they would love you)
- Use IMAutomator if you are promoting niche sites and/or actively creating backlinks elsewhere. (don’t want to get sandboxed now do you?)
That’s all for today, I just wanted to share that awesome tool so that others could enjoy it like I have for the last few days. Stay tuned for upcoming posts where I will delve into backlinking, because I think it is a subject that has been made more confusing than it really needs to be.

Thanks very much for the write-up, much appreciated
Caroline!
What can I say… Thank YOU for creating such a fantastic and easy to use tool, and even more for making it available free!
Good luck with the rest of the launch – although I really don’t think you are going to need it.
Hey Alex,
Thanks a million for sharing these two resources to automate a huge part of the otherwise often tedious work of bookmarking pages and posts. I had come accross the socialmarker service before but I did not know about the IMAutomator. The introduction into its usage you´ve provided is comprehensive enough so that I can try it out as soon as I will have left this comment area. Sounds like an superb tool and you are filling a gap in my strategy of backlink building with that tip. Awesome.
I am really looking forward to your upcoming posts on backlinking as this is a topic I´ve been interested and investigated in for some time now. In my opinion it is a topic that needs to be mastered by anyone who wants to rank his keyword high on page 1 of Google and there is quite a bit of information one needs to understand to use backlinks properly. Your posts are always full of ready-to-use tips and advices so anyone interested in the topic of backlinks should make sure not to miss out on that one!
Have an awesome day
Mirko
Awesome Mirko!
It is my pleasure mate – and I hope you get some awesome value out of it too
Thanks so much for your wicked feedback in regards to the post and the blog in general, that’s awesome of you to say
Take care Mirko, and thanks again for stopping by
Very cool Alex. Have you ever used social bookmarking demon? How do you think they compare if you have?
Hey Joshua,
SocialMarker seems to be owned by BMD or something because there is an ad pride of place there for it. Anyway… in regards to the write up.
Check out Moon’s blog Experiments in Passive Income in the coming weeks because she is about to do a write up about why she is going to STOP using it, in fact – I strongly recommend you check out her blog anyway – she has some killer content and an even better looking site, newly designed.
Thanks again for stopping by and commenting Joshua – hope you enjoy the toys, I mean tools
IMAutomator looks like an interesting tool. I will test it and if I find it useful I’ll recommend it to my clients.
Hi Alex,
The IMAutomator is the brain child of Caroline Middlebrook, a long time blogger who at the time of our meeting one another back in 2008, was making a respectable living online with her Blogging. But she had this software she was building that demanded more and more of her time. You may actually see some of her personal notes on the build of this software in several YouTube Video’s that she made.
Once released, she abandoned her Blog all together. I’m not sure exactly why. But as you can see her work continues with the IMAutomator and is quite good. She was really the first Blogger I felt comfortable with. No smoke, mirrors or cigar ashes. She was what a Pro Blogger should be. I can only wish her the best of luck and encourage everyone to give her software a trial run.
As for automated software, I’m at a lost as to which is the most effective for the Blogger. I wish you would do a write up of “OnlyWire”. I’ve had mixed results, but I am far from a expert such as yourself in such matters. It seems when I engage these software’s my traffic goes up but my bounce rate really suffers. Can you offer this Blogger some help and advice?
Jeffrey:
Funny you bring up OnlyWire as that is what I’ve used in the past and still continue to use some but am beginning to like it less and less as often the posts don’t go through and then I manually have to go and submit them anyhow.
I am def. going to try out the two that Alex mentions above!
Thanks, Alex for sharing!
Hey Michelle,
I also don’t like onlywire because of the stupid pop up box, if I accidentally scroll over the onlywire icon then I have to manually close the box to get to all the sociable buttons underneath. Stupid Onlywire.
Enjoy these tools Michelle
Hey Michelle,
Along with taking it on the chin with the bounce rate, I also suffer from the pop up box Alex mentions along with the fact that I have to re-submit to about half of the social networks for each of my posts.
I’m kinda disappointed in the whole thing really.
Jeffrey & Alex – I’m there with you. Going to try out both of the ones mentioned here my next go around.
Do wish IMAutomator had the big ones in there (Digg, Stumble, Delicious, etc) as I love their concept of drip feeding it. Ah well, someone is probably coding a program that takes the best of both of these right now!
I dont think Digg is do follow anyway though. But I do agree regardless.
I found something called socialbot that is software that does it for you… anyway
Hey Jeffrey,
You are a learned man aren’t you

I just got a comment from Caroline actually and have spoken over email since. She seems like a really genuine girl with some obvious business smarts. Very impressed with what I have seen so far.
Only wire shits me, as I mentioned in response to Michelle above (below?) because of the user interface. Not so much for the user but for the visitor – and the last thing I want to do is annoy potential subscribers.
WIth that in mind I will not even try OnlyWire in order to review it. Sorry
Thanks for stopping by with that awesome follow up story mate, really love hearing the back story of things.
Alex,
Wow,
Checking this out as soon as I finish commenting. It sounds absolutely awesome, thanks for sharing.
Steve
Steve,
Enjoy the tools but I have a question… Why are you optimizing for ‘Steve Scott Site’ with Keyword Luv? Surely you are the only one competing for this. Take advantage of every keyword linking opportunity to boost keywords like ‘make money blogging’ or ‘how to start an internet business’ Over time this will be much more valuable.
Don’t do it again! LOL (I’m going to make it up for you here… Make money blogging with Steve Scott
You are right,
Shamed to say I had actually really not used keywordluv, so way just playing around with this. I will take in your suggestion, as you are right.
Funny enough, though, I do not really rank that well for “Steve Scott”. There was a famous runner and some big deal insurance guy who own the top spots. But I doubt anyone searches for me with those key phrases anyhow, so there is not much point to it.
Hahaha, go to the naughty corner Steve.
Actually, if you have a name that needs to be competed for then I take it all back – you should be optimizing for your own name – mind you, by the time you are well known enough for people to actually search your name, chances are you will have already been linked to enough for your name to win anyway
Awesome Steve, I was only giving you grief anywway mate, think I was bored
Alex, nice! Just in time for me to check out other alternatives. I’m not happy with Bookmarking Demon and you’ll see in my review why, soon
Thanks for the free goodies!
Hey Moon, Awesome. I have had a few emails re: bookmarking demon, so I will send them your way once it’s up.
Thanks for stopping by Moon, enjoy the tools.
PS: How good is Mantas’ WSO!… Think I am going to incorporate A LOT of that into my current business model. It will work nicely with it to boost the Amazon side of the revenue stream.
Regarding your PS…. I like the real case study he gave and I know he’ll be discussing more once the forum starts. Not to mention, I like the day by day break down at the end. The ranking methods are extremely legit and if you ask questions, he goes into way more detail. Can’t wait for the updated guide
Yeah me too, and the forum should be great – finally a chance to talk with like minded individuals and learn from other ideas within the same business model
Awesome post as ever Alex. One you did miss out though is ping.fm which is great for spreading your content to multiple sites (I know it’s not strictly bookmarking, but I thought you should have a look at it).
Cheers, Matthew
Nice tip Matthew, ping.fm is a nice little tool to save time!
Alex,
As always, you give an informative post and this is no exception. I’ve been using BMD for the past year, but you’ve persuaded me to check out IMAutomator. I think some non techie people may get a little lost with social bookmarking, but having a tool that brings it together makes it so much easier and saves so much time, so thanks for sharing man.
Hope those niche sites are blasting the competition away!
Bailey
Hey Bailey.
As always YOUR comment is awesome and informative
I have heard a lot of things about BMD lately but have to say that our good friend Moon over at Experiments in Passive Income is about to post about why she is NOT using it anymore. Should be a good read – and informative!
Thanks for stopping by Bailey – how you been anyway?
Hey Matthew!
Thanks for the tip on ping.fm
it is one of those sites I looked at, then forgot about – so thanks for the reminder, going there now.
Wow Alex,
That tool is awesome! I just got done playing with it… we will see how it works in the next few weeks. I will be watching the traffic radar carefully.
Thanks for the great ideas!

The Underdog Millionaire
Hey Underdog, no worries mate – glad you enjoy the toy, I mean tool
Fantastic find, Alex.
I just signed up for the service and am submitting links as we speak. It is extremely simple to use and sure will help Google build trust in my website as they see my backlinks.
It is important, though, to spread out how often they get linked to (you have an option as to how long they will get posted), because google values them more.
Hey Joe,
How good is this little tool! and you are right Google appreciates a slow build up of links more.
Perfect timing Alex,
I already have an account on IMAutomator (which is awesome btw) but have been looking for other social bookmarking services because I really wanna step up building backlinks to my blog and freelance writing.
I was also considering BookmarkingDemon or SocialWiz (I think that’s what it’s called) – next time I have some spare cash I’m definitely invest toward one of the services. Even if it saves me 20 minutes that could be an extra freelance article I could be writing
I still can’t get over how you can write an article in 20 minutes. It take me 20 minutes just to come up with a title normally!
Thanks for stopping by Murray, glad I timed the post well for you
That a Really great tool , I will use this tool to promote my Blog .. I have a question regarding this tool , whether the subscription of this tool is life time free or we have to pay after using its trail version
Thanks for this post
Tej Kohli
Hey Cheeky Chops,
I have been using IMA for quite a few months now it’s a super tool, did you see my testimonial on it?
Always good to have little programs that do the hard work for ya, it’s the first place I visit after I publish a blog post.
Hope your well and found Dorothy the Dinosaur.
Sally
LOL! Yeah, we found her – thanks. hahahahaha – it did get hairy there for a while though.
I actually just submitted a testimonial for them too, oooh, hope I can live up to yours – have to go and see it now… OOOH NICE! And first too I might add! Damn you, always that one step ahead.
Thanks for stopping by Sally – you rock!
Thanks Alex.. I am definitely going to check out IMAutomator.. looks very cool and hope it is better than flipping onlywire.
“hope it is better than flipping onlywire.” hahaha, from what I have heard it is.
I quoted you because I am sure I have said that about OW before – and I haven’t even used it before!
Thanks for stopping by Aaron!
All I have to say this rocks!!! Keep up the good work.
Wow, this seems like a pretty cool tool to try out. I haven’t had much luck using social bookmarking sites, but if I can just automate it all then I then probably make me feel better.
Thanks for posting on my blog and leaving this link! I think I just found the jackpot! LOL. Later. Added to RSS Feed too btw.
It’s awesome Wayne! Glad you were tempted by CommentLuv and found this great tool (I chose that post on purpose lol)
Thanks for subscribing too Wayne, I actually did the same at your blog
Enjoy
The site looks pretty spammy but there service is not half bad. Have you ever tried onlywire? The downside is that you have to either pay or install their bookmarking link on your site. But you can always install the script, bookmark your pages then uninstall the script…hehe
LOL! I didn’t hear that – but it was awesome all the same!
Thanks for stopping by AJ, rock on man!
Yesterday I signed up to this site IMAutomator and I found out that Automator provides an intuitive drag-and-drop workbench for quickly streamlining repetitive tasks. Here’s a look at creating workflows for every site.
it is good,,, pwerfull
Hi Alex
I’ve been using Im Automator for months now and think its so easy to use and I like that you can drip feed the links to look good with google. The only thing I would say on the downside is that it doesn’t do some of the bigger bookmarking sites like Digg but hopefully Caroline might add it in the future.
Looking forward to your post on backlinking and keep the good content coming
Take care
Dawn Kay
Hey Dawn,
Yeah I was thinking the same thing – but Caroline is certainly a very savvy one, and will hopefully be on the case there sooner than we know it!
It really is a great tool isnt it! Thanks for sharing your experience with it Dawn.
Hello,
I do agree this software is great in the way that it works however, I found that a lot of the submissions failed to complete during the process.
I have been using onlywhire for a long time now. I used to love it, but now it seems like every time I bookmark a post, i have to go back and manually submit to most of the sites listed.
Thanks for the 2 suggestions. I have heard of both of them before and have given IMAutomator a try. The only thing I don’t like about it is the limit it places on free accounts. You can only submit to 10 sites. And even if you want to upgrade, its not available now.
Other than that, I love the fact that it lest you drip feed. Its a great way to ensure steady backlink building. Thanks.
Satrap
I completely agree with you Satrap – I am actually investing in a service as we speak – will review and update on the results in a month or so
Thanks for adding your thoughts man!
Thank you for this useful tool I’ve been using for some day. I’ll let you know how it’s going after a while, but it seems really great!
Hi Alex,
Firstly an apology…I did not get back to you re the WSO process. If you still want please drop me a quick email and I will be happy to share my experiences and thoughts.
Thanks for this little gem of an idea as well. I have been using “Onlywire” with some success in the social bookmarking process but IM Automator sounds like it’s well and truly worth a shot.
Great stuff mate…and my best wishes
Hey Peter, all good brother! I know how things can be (and are) online!
I’ll definitely send an email through askingfor your experiences in the matter – and any tips you can give of course
IM Automator is great because its easy to do, but after a few months of using it – I can’t say for certain whether its actually doing anything! Thats the nature of half the SEO world though, so I just do it anyway LOL
Thanks for stopping by man, good to see you again
I can’t read your articles properly – on my laptop screen, your vertical stationary social bookmark tool floats over a good chunk of the content area – you might want to consider changing its location (I might have stayed to read the article without the tool obstructing it).
Now to find the submit button – I’ll assume it’s somewhere underneath the social bookmark tool…? And sorry if there are any type-o’s – I can’t read what I’ve written because it’s obstructed by… you guessed it.
same problem with sell my car “I found that a lot of the submissions failed to complete during the process”
you too?!
I have been using IMautomator too and I have mixed results with it.
I’m still thinking about getting the PRO version…
Are memberships now open again?
thanks. these are 2 awesome sites mate. it will save me lots of hours.
i` going to try it now.
I always want to use social bookmarking as I know it’s a great way to attract traffic plus getting backlinks but I don’t know how to do all these things, finally I got a tool which will make my task easy. Thanks for solving my problem.
My pleasure Priya – enjoy!
visit my website in tha top.
I want to share my blog. So, should I do? please give me conclusion. Thank for solving my problem.
Nice article, thanks for sharing. I’m waiting for your next article.
I like the IMAutomator. I think it’ll help me a lot. Thanks Alex. I absolutely adore this editorial and it is so fine therefore I am definetly going to tweet it. One thing to say the superb analysis this article has is greatly remarkable .
IMAutomator looks promising. I`ll give it a try with my new site
I have been using IMautomator for the past week on your reccommendation. It’s so easy to use and I cant believe I havent used it before. Thanks for the heads up!
wow, nice tips and tools, however i use BMD and is good!
It seems that Pixelpipe has stopped allowing new registrations. According to their site, it is because they have upgrades to their system coming. If you read social media and Pixelpipe’s own support pages, you’ll find a lot of very unhappy people. Sounds like it would be a great idea if they can get their stuff together, though.
I noticed that actually! Not happy Jan (*aussie advertisement/expression)
They also no longer link to PingFM!?! I honestly think its because of this plugin and the influx of new accounts/shared data that has caused this.
I for one made sure I did not abuse it because its so effective – but there is always going to be the idiots!?!
idiots.
im not sure if this is classed as whitehat or black hat?
yeah – bit of a grey area that one
I have been using socialadr and was searching for some other services when I came across your post. The free side is pretty limiting, but a couple of the sites it uses seem to pack some PR punch. You have to set-up accounts and the different sites and then by sharing other peoples bookmarks you earn credits for people to share yours.
The free account limits you to sharing five bookmarks from other people.
Valuable information you post here!
I would like to thank you for sharing your ideas
and time into the stuff you post! Thumbs up

Thanks for explaining in brief now i can save my time bookmarking automatically by using this tool.
This is a good tool, thanks for sharing
