The Ecofriendly PLR guide – how to recycle a free gift.
In today’s climate, reducing your carbon offset or ‘going green’ are important considerations that impact both individuals and businesses as a whole. With this in mind I wanted to delve into the subject of PLR or Private label Rights and how best to recycle these to fit your requirements AND provide additional value to your readership.
So what is PLR?
PLR or Private Label Rights are materials/information (usually in the form of electronic products –ebooks) that can be purchased for you to use as your own material. PLR or Private Label Rights are rights assigned to a set of articles where you have the legal right to modify the content of the articles (including the author bio). You can then do with them what you like, either sell them, modify them as content for your own marketing purposes – give them away as a free gift in exchange for their email address, basically whatever you like. These PLR articles are also available for free but it is the articles for purchase that are always a better choice as these are usually sold in restricted quantities to keep the content original and unique.
There are numerous sites that specialise in PLR Articles but since this is not the purpose of this particular post, I will simply say ‘Google PLR’ to find out more.
I have my PLR Content. Now what?
Too often I see the eco friendly attempt at recycling PLR which turns out simply to be reusing the material. Granted this is part of the ‘going green’ strategy, but until we can learn to actually add value to the existing content and apply this to our readers/niche – there is no point in claiming this content as our own.
8 steps to Adding value whilst creating a unique (video) gift from recycled content
- Choose two or three PLR articles (ebooks) on the same niche specific subject
- Summarise the content into manageable – easy flowing chapters (using MS word)
- Add images* and ‘how to’ screen shots if and where applicable. *Always add images. Even if the image has nothing to do with the text, it has been proven time and time again that images in text act much like sub headings and lists – they break the monotony of the page and increase the chance of the article or post being read in its entirety.
- You should now have anywhere between 5 and ?? pages of niche specific information that with your summary and related images is now adding value to your readers. (and is completely unique content)
- Take these pages and create a pdf document (you can do this with MS Word if you have installed the add-in) Click File – Save As – PDF or XPS. (If you have not installed the add in the option for PDF or XPS will say look for addins – simply click this and follow the prompts)
- Open up Cam Studio (open source screen capture software) CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD CAMSTUDIO
Cam studio is an open source (meaning free) software available under the Camtasia Studios Software Group and this software will enable you to capture a part of or your entire screen for video purposes. It will also capture your voice provided you have a microphone built in. - Open Cam studio and start recording (by default cam studio will only display a partial screen, simply click on ‘Region’ and change to ‘Full screen’ (see image below)
- Open your PDF document to the title page and start speaking. Flip through each page of the PDF document and read the content, making sure to engage your readers with the right tone, inclination, excitement levels etc. It’s as simple as that. As you click through each page of your pdf document you can talk about the subject matter, refer to the images and build a relationship with your readers through your words.
I don’t think this how to guide requires a summary as such, but let’s point out the incredible advantages of this methodology.
- You have your voice on video – People love video format and with your own personal brand attached, you not only are able to dictate your thoughts and ideas easier, but if the video goes viral, your brand will only benefit in the long run.
- You now have a PDF document AND a video for future content, free gifts, article submissions, viral marketing techniques etc etc (you can also save the audio as an mp3 and use this for podcasts –but more on this later)
- Your new PLR article is both Unique and Valuable to your readers.

Hi Alex
Awesome post, I’ve never really considered mashing/remixing other people’s content. However I can see the value in it, copying one man is plagiarism….but copying many men is just good research haha. iThnk I still favour original content but I like the fact that you’ve talked about adding value by making a screencast/vid.
This post has some wicked ideas about recycling old content http://blogforprofit.com/blogging-tips/five-ways-to-recycle-your-old-blog-content/

Hey Alex,
I’m a friend from Chris farrell’s membership site and just read your post there on the forum. So, I decided to check out your link.
Nice style and good content. I especially like this article as I put up the squeeze page for my eBook and am trying to think of ways to expand the marketing of it. I like this idea of using a video. Thanks

Agree 100% to make your PLR content unique. Otherwise, it will be just like everyone else’s.

I’ve been giving PLR some thought recently, as a client asked me to check into it a few weeks ago and as per usual i should know just to check you archives and pick your brains…so much easier than Google. You really should look into creating your own search engine keep it in line with Burp and call it Spew so you can literally spew forth all those gems of yours
