Free traffic, magic backlinks, & flying pigs.

Free traffic that flies like pigs

by Alex on August 23, 2010

I am on a lot of lists, and recently I received emails from at least 4 marketers, all pitching this new amazing underground traffic generating system called ‘Auto Traffic Avalanche’

I clicked on the link with haste (not) and was taken through the typical clickbank hop to the sales page for this new system. There I was greeted with the smiling face of the creator of this system, and a video started auto playing. I only watched the video that accompanied the sales page all the way through because I wanted to hear their sales copy, and I have to say – it was quite convincing. The system was a steal, knocked down by 75% for a bargain price of $39. And they still had copies available! (rolls eyes) I mean they were only limiting this to 234 copies, it is afterall a secret underground tactic. The video was so good in fact, that by the end of it I was almost convinced that this was the system for me, luckily though – I’m not an idiot.

I wanted to post this today because I am so sick and tired of this kind of thing entering the market place and catching so many people unawares. What upsets me further is that some of the marketers I have come to trust are pitching it to me too. I mean seriously people – WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

Magical backlinks?

free backlinks and traffic magicI build and promote niche sites, and promoting them is an ongoing learning curve. Building and tracking backlinks to learn what authority sites are the most effective and what methods are yielding the best results is a constant in the online marketing world, and no amount of magic formulas or underground systems are going to get you that ‘instant flow of traffic’ that they talk about. Everyone online is there to make money, that’s the bottom line, but like a gambler going to the races, are you really going to give away the secrets that took you years to develop and will guarantee your own livelihood for years to come, just to make a few bob and look like a nice guy?. Sure it pays to genuinely try to help people, because you really can’t do this on your own, but once you’ve made it there…

I’m sorry, call me selfish, call me small minded – but the world in which we live in is not exactly all peaches and cream, and in the end the only one you are there for is yourself and your family and friends, so if you had suddenly ‘made it’ why would you then turn around and just give it all away? It sounds too good to be true because it is. The Big Marketers love it when a system like this comes along. They launch it like it’s the QE2 and carry on and on about it until the cows come home, but the only cow in sight is the cash one they are creating for themselves right now.

Numbers don’t lie

Numbers dont lieThese systems are all over the place, all the time- but today I am picking on this stupid Avalanche thingy, so let’s break it down into something that cannot lie – NUMBERS.
This guy (can’t be bothered going back to page to see exactly what his name is) claims to have tapped into an underground marketing method that can drive hordes of targeted traffic to your site, generating over $600 a day with each and every account (whatever that means) and he now wants to share it with us right? So he is currently making $1000′s every day on complete autopilot, thus guaranteeing the security of his family for years to come, but he wants to sell 234 copies for $39 each. Yeah – I definitely think he is giving away his own traffic future for the awesome sum of  $9126. Definitely.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that these systems do not contain awesome little tidbits and ideas that you may not have thought of to generate traffic to your site, but do you honestly believe that for $39 you are going to get the magic underground formula that no one else knows about in the world and suddenly start making money?! Sometimes these systems might contain exactly what you are looking for to add to your arsenal and make all the difference. We know this because amongst all the BS* testimonials are the occasional truthful ones, and these are those stories. Remember that the ones who made this work already had experience online and have vested the time and energy into their web presence already, making the addition work well.

It all comes down to YOU

success is all up to youAt the end of the day it all comes down to how hard you are willing to work. The magic systems are there to make the Guru’s wealthy because they know that most Marketers just jump from one opportunity to the next, never actually getting any established credibility or skillset for that matter. If you want to make it online then you need to work your ass off.. a LOT. And if you want to learn about all the magic systems and ways to generate this ‘free’ traffic they talk about, then just look around the blogosphere. Because it’s all relevant, it’s all awesome, and best of all, it’s all free.

See you round the blogosphere… but first, check out this incredible new system I just tapped into :)

Nice rant Alex.. I personally get tired of seeing all these schemes as well.. If somebody has some “secret” tactic, do you really think they will let it go for less than thousands of dollars (or at all… I know I never would). Keep up the good posts, love the blog.

Its the old story, when I’m making 600 a day on the internet my would be to make these 600 a day as long as possible. The last thing I’d do is to tell other people about it which is a surefire way of drying up the well.

Man you really make me laugh and this is great for Monday morning. I totally agree with you. I also got several offers about this product.

I love sharing information with people but if I figured out a way to make $600 each day, I am milking it for as long as I can and not share the information (well maybe a little bit of the info). $600 days don’t come around to often. If I had a traffic system that could generate that kind of money each day then why would I want to sell it and make less money overall.

Wow! What a way to start the week!

There are plenty of strategies that are marketed as “secrets”. But if people had REAL “secrets” they wouldn’t be selling products promising riches. I agree wholeheartedly. There is no “magic bullet” for anything in life; from weight loss to making money online. Anyone who tells you differently an claims to have an “easy” system for a complex problem is trying to sell you something.

Like you said, there may well be methods that you can use to add to your arsenal and things that you had not thought of but you will not be getting “something” for nothing. YOu will still need to put you time and effort in to achieve anything.

Great work on this post. There is way too much hype in information products these days, and even worse are the people seem to peddle this stuff to each other in a giant circle. Hey Alex,

What a really cool blog post, refreshing and engaging writing style and a well conveyed message! Loved the point about “the numbers just don’t add up”…I often think that!

I think the issue with Traffic for many people is that elements of it seem tricky and intimidating like SEO and many of the paid traffic routes, like PPC, are prohibitively expensive so that leaves a large percentage of people willing to hush down their inner better judgement for this latest $39 ‘magic bullet’.

I think I’ve visited here before but it’s looking a lot different than last time! Notice your using thesis which is something I’m thinking of getting (time for a bit of a shake up on my blog). How do you find it to work with? Advice appreciated!

Oh man, I think I have a long rant-type post just like this one sitting in my archives somewhere because over the years I pride myself in seeing through the BS in a lot of the hyped up product launches – post, I believe, was nearly 2k words that broke down each section and debunked everything.

But that’s besides the point.

Like you said Alex, it comes down to putting in the hard work. Yes, many of these “magical” systems can indeed work but you actually HAVE TO DO THE WORK! The main problem is that they are marketed in a fashion that it seems like you don’t have to at all, hence “magical”. Then, either the buyer never does it or becomes frustrated and bounces on the project.

If you’re going to waste so much time investing your money and time trying to pick up a system – at least stick through with it to see whether or not it could have actually worked. If it doesn’t, take advantage of the money-back guarantee (that’s what it’s there for).

Ugh, I was totally suckered into buying this product endorsed by George Brown. What a crock. :) And it had a 100% money back guarantee and yet I couldn’t even be bothered to ask for it. And I’m sure they are counting on that. I realized 30 minutes into doing the “system” that it was complete B.S.

Lessons learned! I’ve recently stopped subscribing to “gurus” who pitch their friends’ crap. I feel like it’s their responsibility to take care of their lists and instead they are just abusing them.

A niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focusing; therefore the market niche defines the specific product features aimed at satisfying specific market needs, as well as the price range, production quality and the demographics that is intended to impact.

Every single product that is on sale can be defined by its niche market. As of special note, the products aimed at a wide demographic audience, with the resulting low price (due to price elasticity of demand), are said to belong to the mainstream niche—in practice referred to only as mainstream or of high demand. Narrower demographics lead to elevated prices due to the same principle. So to speak, the Niche Market is the highly specialized market that tries to survive among the competition from numerous super companies

In my personal opinion once you have paid for a back-link you have failed. Not only is it against search engine terms (the web is already saturated with enough crap, so please don’t pay for your shitty site to rank number 1 – not you Alex, but in general) but in order to build a great site you need to know your market/niche and if you know them well enough then you shouldn’t have a problem getting organic back-links.
