Someone giving you the squeeze?

Creating an online business has to start from the basics. Learning the fundamentals to both create AND understand your online venture puts you immediately ahead of the game, so with that I give you a really simplified guide to setting up a list building web page.

‘Make money working from home, earn thousands a week through affiliate marketing… we hear it all the time. We see it all the time. Naturally we are intrigued, we want more information, so we Google.

And now of course we are really confused…

This article was created not only to show you the tools and basic business model around the ‘squeeze page’ idea but also to try and alleviate some of the ‘where do I start?’ questions that I KNOW are floating around your head.

So you want to make money online. Here is the basic ideology behind the squeeze page and for the record, I am keeping this really simple because the truth of the matter is, IT IS A REALLY SIMPLE CONCEPT. First and foremost; definitions: A Squeeze page or ‘opt in’ page is named as such because its primary  goal is to squeeze the name and email address out of the visitor thus building your list. THE MONEY IS IN THE LIST. There I said it, and it’s true. So back to the business model.

*You register a domain and find a hosting company – and you build a squeeze page and a thankyou page and a download page.

*You create an account with an autoresponder service such as Aweber (who offer the service of automating all email correspondence to your list of ever growing subscribers – the ones who had their email addresses squeezed from them) and prefill a few months worth of email containing a mix of valuable information and links to your own or other affiliate products.

*You create an AMAZING report or gift to give away to entice people to sign up to your list in the first place.

OK so that’s all the initial setup work done. Seriously.  The process works as follows:

-Visitor lands on your squeeze page and they want your free report/gift so they input their name and email details.

-Visitor is then directed to your thankyou page telling them to check their inbox for a confirmation email.

-Your autoresponder meanwhile sends out the first of a series of emails to the recipient

-Visitor confirms email and are instantly sent a second email that contains a link to your download page where they then access their free report or gift.

That’s the process in its rawest and in all honesty, it’s not exactly rocket science – it’s just made to seem that way so that ‘it’ can continue to be sold as the next magic autopilot instant cash pulling super-affiliate creating Google-code breaking sensation. As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of other steps in the process that need to be understood – and a gamut of information out there on the subject,  but this post is about keeping it simple.

In order to get started there are a few tools that you will need, and most of them are free.

*An FTP client. This is essentially what you need to access your new domain at its home on the web (at your host company’s server) I personally use FILEZILLA as this is a well recognised company and the download is completely FREE

*An HTML editor. OK this sounds scary and even worse – expensive! sounds like it anway. I have dreamweaver installed so I use this as my HTML editor but before I purchased the expensive Adobe software I was using KOMPOZER, again a very reputable software company that offer their download completely FREE

*An autoresponder like Aweber will set you back around $20 a month, and considering the service they offer and what they will do for your income in the long term, this is a small price to pay and the best ROI you will see for a while.

*A domain can be registered for around $9 a year (I use www.crazydomains.com.au but everyone always seems to recommend godaddy.com – either way, like anything – shop around!)

*A Host company. There are thousands of host companies, and millions of affiliates promoting these, so again – shop around

OK, so there ARE costs involved, but they are nothing compared to what it would set you back to start a bricks and mortar company, and this is essentially what we are doing here – we are creating an opportunity to earn an income from your lounge room!

The world wide web is an amazing opportunity! Now go grab yours.

Hi Alex,
I’m wondering why you would recommend Godzilla? I haven’t used Godzilla in years. Most hosting services come with an FTP Client that will serve even the most demanding Blogger.
And for the Newbie Kompozer is fine. Tackling Dreamweaver is truly jumping from the frying pan into the fire. You pay more you suffer more. I actually had a copy of “Autocad” before they started selling it for $4445.00. It about killed me. I think maybe that’s partly what’s wrong with me today!

Hi Alex:

I read your tweet and left all my work and came here. So there you are telling us about squeeze page. All this I can do, I get stuck when people in the list do not reply to any emails and you do not know how to make the person communicate. And then sorting and creating different lists according to the participation of the list people so you may offer them to what they want to achieve, and it is so hard to do guess everything ? Or leave them all int the same list then they might sign off themselves or will stop responding to the email. And a unresponsive person is of no use to the list. This process bugs me.

I hope you will write about that too. I am looking for someone from this blogging group who starts list building as their niche and I join horses with them to established my list. I do have an squeeze page report and a back order product all set, but I feel my list is dead.
